BIOGRAPHY

Kolë Logoreci

Kolë Logoreci

Kolë Logoreci was born in Skopje on March 22, 1896. He was the eldest son of the patriot and linguist Mati Logoreci ("Teacher of the People"), one of the prominent figures of the society of the time. He descended from the well-known Logoreci family, with historical mentions dating back to 1300 under the name Logoreseos.

He completed his primary education in Shkodër and his secondary and university studies in Vienna, where he graduated in Economics. For about five years, he also studied the violin and performed as an orchestral musician in concerts held at the Golden Hall of Vienna (where the famous New Year's Concert takes place annually).

A highly skilled economist, he was awarded the highest title of the era in Albania, "Knight of the Order of Skanderbeg." In 1933, he was appointed Chief of the State Budget of Albania, a position decreed by King Zog, which he held until after the liberation. During his tenure, he implemented a series of measures to modernize the Budget Institution on a scientific basis. He is credited with directing investments for the capital city and leading efforts to strengthen the Albanian currency.

Kolë Logoreci married the actress Marie Çurçija, who became world-renowned as the great Marie Logoreci ("People's Artist", "Honor of the Nation"). From this marriage, their son, Pjerin Logoreci, was born.

In the early years following the liberation, he continued his work at the Ministry of Finance until he openly opposed the economic plans that the communists coming to power intended to apply. To this day, specialists recall his prophetic statement: “The State is the worst administrator of property,” which he said when the nationalization of all property was proposed. Due to this stance, Kolë was suspended from his duties, but perhaps because he was the son of Mati Logoreci and a participant in the formation of the government, he was not imprisoned. He later worked as an accountant at the "Stalin" Textile Combine.

His great passion was the violin, which he kept close and played constantly, especially the works of Strauss, both among friends and at home with his son. Another passion of his was cycling. Kolë would go on bicycle trips with his wife, Marie, and a group of friends, often traveling from Tirana to Durrës, and even as far as Shkodër.

Kolë Logoreci passed away in Tirana on June 10, 1964, following a severe illness.
